CLIMATE CHANGE MISSION
Michael Haddad has been named, in November 2019, a Regional Goodwill Ambassador for Climate Action in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Arab States.
Immediately after his designation as Regional Goodwill Ambassador, endurance athlete Michael Haddad dedicated his 100Km Arctic Walk to climate action , drawing attention to one of the gravest consequences of climate change—the fast-melting polar ice sheet. The goal is to call for action to address the global climate emergency. The UN Secretary-General lent his support to this endeavor, giving Michael a UN flag to carry during his walk. |
Michael will muster up all his willpower to perform the Arctic Walk next winter season (Dec 2021- March 2022), bringing attention to the melting arctic ice and calling for concerted and scaled-up climate action.
A MAJORITY OF PEOPLE CALL FOR WIDE-RANGING ACTION
In 2021, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized an innovative poll with the University of Oxford. The world's largest survey on public opinion about climate change, "Peoples' Climate Vote," revealed that 64% of people in 50 countries worldwide believe that climate change is a global emergency.

Climate change must top our list of priority concerns that drive us all to action—in Lebanon, across the Arab region, and everywhere,” Haddad said. “I am very excited to work closely with UNDP to help focus attention on the greatest threat to our common humanity today. We must all take concrete action to address this threat as individuals, communities, countries, and a united global community. We have no place other than Earth to call home.
CLIMATE CHANGE HAS BECOME AN INEVITABLE REALITY OF OUR TIME
By walking across the Arctic Circle, Michael aims to advance and rally action to save the melting ice caps. Individual efforts should be joint with collective humanitarian and coordinated multilateral global action to reduce our carbon footprint & save our planet. Moreover, we must focus our attention on the devastating impact of Climate Change, and a global response is necessary to end the climate crisis successfully!
